Interview With Frank Anthony of Let Me Be Frank.

Alan Wild interviewed Frank Anthony of “Let Me Be Frank”, a podcast that is open, honest and unfiltered about important topics and events.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am an aspiring writer who speaks from the heart. I have been writing since age six with my first short story series called “Mystery Days.”

I grew up in Massachusetts with a hard-working single mom and a dream to share my stories with the world. So far, I’ve been published in a couple of literary magazines and have done blog work for about 10 years. I’m proud to continue blog writing along with publishing novels for the world to sink their teeth into. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an Associate’s in Liberal Arts.

What is the driving factor for the creation of your podcast?

There are a few driving factors behind “Let Me Be Frank.” One, I wanted to speak my truth and let others do the same. Two, I wanted to help guests get exposure for the hard work they are putting in every day. Three, I love learning new things, and I am always learning new things from each and every guest.

How do you come up with topics?

I like to help the guest come up with some topics they would be interested in talking about, and if I don’t know a whole lot about it, I will conduct some research. I want the guest to be passionate about what they talk about.

Where do you gather your inspiration?

One source of inspiration behind this show was actually Jada Pinkett Smith’s online show “The Red Table Talk.” I feel like they are open and honest on their show, and after guest starring a few times on my friend’s podcast “The Spilled Tea,” I realized I wanted to start my own podcast.

When your creative flow is dried up, how do you replenish?

I’ve come up with a plethora of replenish methods. Going for a walk helps quite a lot. I also like to work out, meditate, read, listen to music, and play video games to help refuel the creative flow. Another thing that helps a lot is going out with a friend and living life. I believe that creating new experiences in life can help create new writing and podcast content.

Can you describe to us your podcast setup?

My podcast setup has changed from Season 1 to Season 2. During season 1, my process started off with calling someone on my phone with a pair of headphones and recording the conversation. Now, there is a visual aspect added so you can watch or listen to the podcast, so I use a camera with a tripod, lights, microphones, and editing software.

How much time do you spend on editing?

When the podcast was strictly audio, it usually took 1-2 hours to edit and schedule the podcast episode to air. Now that there is a video aspect on YouTube, it takes me a couple extra hours to edit. But I think as I get more used to editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, I will become faster at editing.

What topic that you have covered are you the most passionate about?

One topic that I’ve covered so far that I am very passionate about is eating disorders. I had battled anorexia nervosa for many years, and eating disorders are something you can battle the rest of your life. I don’t think eating disorders are talked about enough, especially by men, and I like covering topics on Let Me Be Frank that aren’t talked about often.

You also have a blog on top of your podcast and YouTube channel, how do you juggle the responsibility to make sure all media entries are covered.

I will admit, I would get stressed from trying to juggle everything at once, we’re only human. When I took things one step at a time, I gave myself time to breathe and not overthink the task at hand. I’m not as strict with my blog going forward because I want it to be a fun experience and not drain my passion for writing.

How do you deal with criticism?

I think constructive criticism is one of the best things we can receive because it’s what makes us better and help master our craft. I am open-minded to criticism because whether you’re working on a podcast, novel, or any type of project, it needs to be marketable and it needs to sell. I think it’s harder to grow without constructive criticism, and like I said prior, I love learning new things.

What method do you use to organize your ideas and plans?

I create Microsoft Word documents, I use a planner, and I have a dry-erase weekly calendar. I love staying organized. If I’m on the go and don’t have any of those resources handy, I also like to use the Notes app on our phones to jot down ideas and thoughts.

What goes into creating a weekly ‘Let Me Be Frank’ podcast?

I usually have some guests pre-planned to air during specific weeks (and to avoid scrambling last minute). I set up a date and time to start recording with a guest. We do a sound check and make sure everything is working properly before starting. Then we go right into the episode. After recording, I dive into editing and making sure the episode is perfect to post. Then when the episode airs, I post some marketing to let people know that a new episode is out. Also, once I record with someone, I like to make sure I have another recording session in the process so the show is always on time when airing.

What is in the works for Frank Anthony?

Currently, I am working on publishing my first novel called “The T Word.” The book is about three students that create a gossip website about students and faculty at their school. The website starts to get out of hand, and causes some life-altering experiences for everyone involved. The book is written from the perspectives of each of the three main characters: Theo Wright, Calista Ryder, and Axel Lake.

After this book is finished, I’ve had a self-help book on the back burner that I’ve been dying to finish.

The Let Me Be Frank podcast is continuing to grow, and after each season completes, I will work on the things from the previous season that I could have done better.
